Distracted driving is tough to stop

Distracted driving is common in New Hampshire and across the nation. One report showed that almost 8 in 10 consumers talk on the phone while behind the wheel. Around 30% have almost been in serious accidents because they were driving while distracted.

These figures come from a survey that included more than 2,000 consumers and executives. The survey's purpose was to gather information about distracted driving and the reasons why people get distracted. The most common distractions included emailing or texting. Social media, taking pictures, recording videos and shopping online were also common distractions.

While these distractions are common, they are potentially life-threatening. Despite knowing the risks, many drivers find that it is just too difficult to stop them. In fact, some individuals said that even if it was against the law, they would still drive distracted.

There are various opinions on how to help drivers focus more while on the road. Some suggest that laws against texting could make a big difference. Others feel that using settings on smart phones to not disturb drivers is the answer. Workplace accountability may be helpful when it comes to distracted employees on the road.

One solution that may be helpful is having conversations about driving behavior. Few said that they would speak up while in the car with a distracted driver, but many said they would improve their driving if they were asked to do so.

Being injured in a car accident caused by a distracted driver can completely change someone's life. An individual who has been in this situation may decide to speak with a personal injury attorney. The attorney may be able to provide information about proving who was at fault and seeking compensation for injuries. They may be also able to provide information about how certain paperwork needs to be filled out.
