Every seven seconds, someone is injured on the job. If you are working in manufacturing, it is likely to happen to you at some point in your career. Whether you work in assembling, fabricating, welding or machining, the threat of a serious injury is always present.

While some manufacturing injuries are relatively minor and may require little to no accommodation, others can have devastating effects on a person’s work and personal life.

Every workplace injury has the potential to be serious and requires medical assessment.

Have you experienced any of these common manufacturing injuries?

Manufacturing workers face a wide range of injuries. These are the most common.

Contact with an object. Many manufacturing jobs require the use of dangerous equipment, some poorly maintained, leading to injury. Additionally, some injured employees are must handle equipment without proper training. Workers in contact with heavy machinery can face injuries including:

  • Crushed appendages
  • Loss of limbs
  • Lacerations
  • Ensnarement

Overexertion. In jobs that are very physical, it is common for employees to face musculoskeletal injuries from overexertion. Injuries include:

  • Ligament sprain
  • Trigger finger
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Ruptured or herniated disc

Slips, trips, and falls. Working in a manufacturing plant often requires quickly moving from place to place. It is very common for workers to injure themselves by slipping, tripping or falling from a height. If that happens, several injuries can occur.

  • Head injuries
  • Muscle sprains
  • Bone fractures
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Joint damage

Although New Hampshire workers are eligible for compensation in the event of an injury, they often find miles of red tape as they navigate the paperwork. Despite this, workers should not be discouraged from pursuing the benefits they deserve.
